HSBC Malaysia launches new Shariah-Compliant initiatives

HSBC Malaysia launched the 1st Shariah-compliant structured investment product in Malaysia: HSBC Amanah Islamic Dual Currency Structured Investment.

HSBC Malaysia also presented HSBC Amanah's first zakat payment to Pusat Pungutan Zakat, Wilayah Persekutuan.

2007

HSBC Malaysia Launches More Islamic Initiatives

HSBC Bank Malaysia launched HSBC Amanah Wealth Management Proposition, the first full suite of Islamic financial planning solutions in Malaysia.

In November 2007, HSBC Bank Malaysia became the first locally incorporated foreign bank to be awarded licence to set up an Islamic Banking Subsidiary by the Central Bank of Malaysia.

2008

HSBC Amanah Malaysia Berhad: The Beginning

In February 2008, HSBC Amanah Malaysia Berhad, the new fully fledged Islamic bank wholly owned by HSBC Bank Malaysia was incorporated.

In August 2008, HSBC Amanah Malaysia commenced its operations.

In November 2008, the first branch of HSBC Amanah Malaysia, located in Bandar Utama, was opened. This was followed by the second branch in December 2008 at Juru Auto City, Penang.

HSBC Amanah was officially launched by Y.Bhg. Tan Sri Dato' Sri Dr. Zeti Akhtar Aziz, the Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia ("BNM") in One-Utama Shopping Centre, Petaling Jaya.

The HSBC Amanah Scholarship Programme was launched this year as part of HSBC Amanah Malaysia's efforts to support human capital development in Islamic finance. Two undergraduates became the first two recipients of the HSBC Amanah Scholarship.
